Ferdinand urges Man United to make Jack Grealish a priority signing
Rio Ferdinand admits he’s ‘licking his lips’ at prospect of pairing Bruno Fernandes with Jack Grealish at Man United… as he urges his old side to make Aston Villa star a priority signing even if Paul Pogba STAYS
- Rio Ferdinand feels Jack Grealish should be Manchester United’s next signing
- The ex-United defender believes Grealish can tandem with Bruno Fernandes
- Question marks over the future of Paul Pogba could open a spot in the midfield
Rio Ferdinand has called on Manchester United to make Jack Grealish a priority signing – even if Paul Pogba stays at the club beyond next summer.
Grealish has been a long-term midfield target for United and has seen his value rocket again this season after Aston Villa’s impressive start to the 2020-21 campaign.
The 25-year-old is a ‘great kid’ from Ferdinand’s experience and the former United defender believes he would dovetail smartly alongside Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United defender recalled meeting Grealish while at his restaurant
Grealish signed a new five-year deal after an exit from Villa Park failed to materialise last summer and so it could take £100million to prise him away.
Much has been made of Pogba’s long-term future after his agent, Mino Raiola, said in December that the Frenchman is ‘unhappy’ and he needs to change team.
For Ferdinand, Grealish represents a generational talent that United must pursue even if Pogba elects to remain at the club and fight for a spot.

‘I don’t care if Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man!’ Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.
‘I’ve known this guy since he was in his early teens. He came to my restaurant in Manchester actually to watch a game and I got him some tickets. Great kid, great family. Loves his football. What you don’t see is the hard work behind closed doors, the attention to detail, the way he trains and changed his regime.
‘He’s looked at himself and what can I do better? I’ve heard from a lot of people that’s he’s diligent with everything he does off the pitch to where he’s now. We’re seeing results week in, week out now.
‘The numbers tell you he’s starting to think about things. I think he’s looked at himself in the summer and thought, I did well last season, I’ve signed a new deal at the club I love, and now I’m going to go again. There’s been a huge improvement in the numbers.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (right) is an admirer of Grealish (left) and could move for him this year
‘Good players will find a way, they will work it out. Can you imagine if you had McTominay holding and Pogba alongside Grealish and Fernandes. Imagine that man! I’m licking my lips right now.
‘Listen, he’s an Aston Villa player. If I’m a manger of a top, top team in England, I don’t allow him to stay there anymore, I take him!’
Grealish has made a bright start to the season with six goals and nine assists already.
In Villa’s narrow 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford recently, Grealish proved a bright spark and will have only boosted his reputation in the eyes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his coaching staff.
