Rio Ferdinand has lauded Declan Rice as the ‘best midfielder in the country’ after his excellent start to the season for West Ham.
The 22-year-old has played a vital part to the Hammer’s success so far this season, with David Moyes’ side sitting third in the league table after their 3-2 victory against Liverpool.
Former Hammer Ferdinand has said that something has ‘clicked’ in Rice since his participation with England at Euro 2020.
Rio Ferdinand has hailed West Ham star Declan Rice as the ‘best midfielder in the country’
The television pundit told his Vibe with Five podcast: ‘He has arguably been the best midfielder in the country.
‘He has dominated games, he has played with maturity. The Euros, something’s clicked in him different.
“His game management, the way he can change the pace of a game at times, we saw that at Newcastle earlier in the season. He’s added goals now. There’s a maturity in his game for one so young that he’s got levels still to go.’

Ferdinand was then asked whether he realised he was ‘good enough’ during his own career while playing for England alongside the likes of Paul Scholes and David Beckham.
He responded: ‘I knew I was good enough at West Ham, I always felt I could go to the top and there’s more levels in me – Declan probably feels the same.
‘Why’s he going to want to leave West Ham right now? They’re third in the league. For anyone to prise him out of West Ham they’re going to have to pay big money.
‘That’s the problem anyone is going to have now because they probably could have got him for I don’t know if they really pushed the boat out and went £50 or 60 million in the summer.

‘Moyes said at the weekend – £100 million and you’re still probably going to get a no. I don’t know if that was tongue-in-cheek but that’s what he said.’
Rice has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with pundits and supporters speaking of the club’s need to sign a defensive midfielder.
The 22-year-old has scored one goal and provided three assists for the Hammers who are just one win away from league leaders Chelsea.
