Ferdinand discovered he was sent bullets in the post by seeing it on Sky News
Anton Ferdinand only discovered that he was sent bullets in the post after seeing it breaking on Sky News.
The former defender was found to have been racially abused by then- Chelsea star John Terry by the FA.
It saw the Blues legend banned for four matches and fined £220,000, which also came amid a decision to step down as England captain.
Ferdinand, despite being the victim of racist abuse, was then further hounded off the pitch – which came to a head in January 2012.
Just days before QPR were set to take on Chelsea in the FA Cup, Ferdinand was sent a bullet in the post.
In the first match between the two London sides since Terry’s racial charge, police revealed they were investigating a malicious communication at QPR’s training ground.
But Ferdinand, who made 49 appearances for the R’s, was none the wiser – and admitted he only found out after watching Sky News.
In a chat with YouTube channel FilthyFellas, he said: “It was like a whirlwind which I could not get away from.
“But in my head, I was cool – I am alright. All I wanted to do was play football.
“Everything that has ever happened in my life, football has always been the one thing that can take any pain away. I just thought everything was cool.
“I was sent bullets before we played Chelsea in the FA Cup. And Mark Hughes was not going to play in that game because of it.
“We were playing at 12 o’clock at Loftus Road in the FA Cup against Chelsea. I turned up to the game because we had to stay in a hotel because it was an early kick-off.
“I turned up to Loftus Road to park the car before getting on the bus to go to the hotel.
“I walked into the reception – not Sky Sports News, Sky News, breaking – ‘Anton Ferdinand sent bullets in the post’.
“I thought, ‘No, I haven’t?’ – player liaison officer, Paul, comes out and says ‘Yes, you have.’
“This was at the ground, so someone has obviously said it. I don’t know who but someone must have said something.”
