Fearful England WAGs ‘weigh up U-turn’ over living on ship for Qatar World Cup

Some of England WAGs and their families are now having doubts about going on a cruise ship during the World Cup, according to reports.

Some of the wives and girlfriends of England’s men senior team are concerned over suffering ‘cabin fever and potential invasions of their privacy', according to Daily Mail. We revealed last month that WAGs and co had booked a large ship on the coat of Doha, Qatar, after they failed to find anything suitable in the country.

Alcohol is barred at the five-star Souq Al Wakra beach resort where Gareth Southgate’s side will stay. It’s thought that part of the reason why they had wished to stay off the coast was to avoid the conservative drinking laws.

But it now appears that some of them are not fully on board with the idea of spending time ashore. One of the boats can accommodate another few thousand and they fear such a setting could lead to an invasion of privacy.

Fifa reportedly offered players’ families a selection of accommodation for the World Cup – but for most, the ship seemed like the most appealing option. The other halves of Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling are reported to be among those who opted to stay on the ship. But it’s not clear who now has reservations.

In the 2006 World Cup, WAGs were accused of unruly behaviour, with reports that there was drunken dancing on the tables and obscene hotel bills in Germany. Then-England manager Fabio Capello outlawed partners from touring to the World Cup in South Africa.

Gary Neville said of the potential of disruptive behaviour: "The FA learnt from the experience in 2006. The England team did. The England players did. That wasn't ideal for anybody. It was symptomatic of the times.

"It is a different world now and those mistakes won't happen again."
