Fans think Thiago Silva has ‘confirmed’ Mason Mount’s Man Utd move on Instagram

Chelsea star Thiago Silva may have given the game away for Mason Mount amid speculation the England midfielder is set to join Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag is believed to be targeting the Blues academy graduate as one of his primary targets this summer. Major changes are expected at Stamford Bridge following Mauricio Pochettino's appointment as manager, and Mount could be one of the pieces moved on to draw in funds.

The 24-year-old has been a constant for the club since Silva moved to west London from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020. Mount was in and out of the side this season amid the rotation of managers, however, and has struggled to feature much in 2023 due to a pelvic injury.

And although a move is yet to be confirmed by either club, Silva's social media response may have given the inside scoop on whether a transfer is close. Replying to a post by the @just_cfc Instagram page, the former Brazil captain commented with two solemn-looking emojis shedding tears.

Transfer 'insider' Fabrizio Romano reported on Thursday that Mount is 'keen' on a move to United and that personal terms won't be an issue. However, the Red Devils are reportedly some way off meeting Chelsea's alleged £70million asking price.

"Basically confirms it tbh," wrote one Chelsea supporter in response to Silva's reaction. "In all honesty, nobody wants him to leave," sympathised another fan seemingly in agreement with the centre-back.

Not everyone was as torn up by the speculation, however, as one spectator commented: "If he wants to go let him go, for him not to be signing and wanting to leave shows his loyalty to the club and team has dwindled."

"Let him go," insisted another. "He’s not ready to play for us."

Many might disagree considering Mount was a crucial figure in the Champions League triumph of 2021, as well as leading Chelsea to three consecutive FA Cup finals in the previous three seasons. He averaged 53 appearances per term across those three campaigns prior to the disastrous 2022/23 season.

Mount was just four years old when he first started training with the Blues and officially joined their academy at the age of six. He made his senior debut for the team in August 2019 and has been a firm fixture effectively since then.

United will be expected to stump up a significant fee in order to land their man this summer, with loanee Marcel Sabitzer seemingly set to return to Bayern Munich. And although a big gap may separate the buying and selling clubs at present, Silva's contribution may suggest it's a matter of when and not if the deal comes to pass.
