Fans think ‘someone got a telling off’ after spotting Joe Cole’s ITV caption

Fans think ‘someone got a telling off’ after spotting ITV’s caption for Joe Cole during their World Cup coverage.

The former winger was on punditry duty along with Roy Keane and Gary Neville for Argentina’s 2-0 win over Mexico on Saturday night. But despite Cole being a Chelsea legend, the ITV caption summing up his career recognised him as an England and Liverpool player – where he notably had a far less successful spell.

It was also spelled ‘Liverpoollllllllllllllll’, suggesting it was somebody’s idea of a joke behind the scenes. And eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice the gaffe, taking to Twitter to voice their confusion at the odd captioning.

One fan wrote: “Joe Cole played for Liverpoollllllllllllllll, apparently. Hahaha. Someone got a telling off.”

Another puzzled user asked: “Who's doing the titles at ITV? Strange way to sum up Joe Cole's career,” along with a laughing face emoji.

A third tweeted: “Joe Cole? England and Liverpool? What about Chelsea? Are you ignoring his connection there? Well obviously you are!!!”

Do you think Joe Cole is one of England's most underrated ever players? Let us know in the comments section.

Cole spent seven years with Chelsea as opposed to the three (one on loan) at Liverpool between 2010 and 2013. He became a Blue after leaving West Ham’s academy in 2003, and it was under Jose Mourinho that he became a Stamford Bridge hero.

The silky midfielder won back-to-back Premier League titles under the Portuguese manager and another one in the 2009/10 season. He also netted 39 goals for the Blues and clinched two FA Cups.

His accomplishments at Liverpool were far more tame, having managed just five goals for the Reds before returning to West Ham.
