Fans think Mendy’s ‘hands are gone’ after failing to stop Southampton goal
Chelsea fans think Edouard Mendy's "hands are gone" after he failed to stop Southampton's equaliser.
The Blues had taken the lead away at St. Mary's on Tuesday night, with Raheem Sterling giving Thomas Tuchel's side the lead after 23 minutes on the south coast. However, the home side were level just five minutes later after Romeo Lavia's strike was too powerful for Mendy in the Chelsea goal.
The teenage midfielder grabbed his first goal since joining Southampton from Manchester City, with the Chelsea keeper unable to keep his shot out despite getting a hand to the Belgian's fierce drive from the edge of the box.

Another added: "Mendy should have saved that tbf," before a third supporter commented: "Mendy’s hands are gone…"
"Mendy at it again," wrote another fan. Meanwhile, another also referenced Mendy's form in 2022 by adding: "We need to speak about Mendy post AFCON…"

Comparing Mendy's recent performances to team-mate Kepa Arrizabalaga, one more Chelsea fan commented: "We need to have a conversation about Mendy. Kepa got dropped for these exact mistakes."
Mendy has kept an impressive 49 clean sheets in 97 appearances since joining Chelsea back in 2020, but has struggled so far this season.
Prior to the trip to Southampton, the Senegal international had already conceded six goals in the opening four matches of the season and he has not kept a clean sheet since the opening weekend of the campaign.
He was beaten once again in first half stoppage time, as the Saints completed a turnaround and took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Adam Armstrong.
