Manchester United have come under fire yet again after Jamie Vardy snubbed the Red Devils to sign a new deal with Leicester City, describing the decision as "easy."

Vardy has signed an extension which will see him remain at the King Power Stadium until 2024, taking his affiliation with the Foxes to 13 years. The 35-year-old celebrated a decade at Leicester in May and is the club's third highest scorer of all time with 164 goals to his name.

It comes just a few days after the forward was linked with a move to United amid their striker crisis. A switch never seemed overly likely, but that hasn't stopped football fans ripping into the Red Devils for their latest failed pursuit of a new frontman.

One fan wrote: "Add Jamie #Vardy to the list of players who used a link to #United to get a bigger deal at his club." As another said: "Can’t believe Jamie Vardy signed a contract extension at Leicester, United were signing him less than 48hrs ago…"

A third person joked: "Man United thought they’d have a chance." While someone else commented: "Vardy was so worried about the United interest that he signed a new deal."

A fifth Twitter user chimed in with: "So it turns out Jamie Vardy isn’t going to Manchester United. There was no way of knowing."

Vardy spoke to LCFC TV about his new contract, saying: "I’m obviously over the moon. Once I heard it was something the club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy.

"I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture. I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.

"To carry on being involved with that, I was over the moon. Now it’s all about this season and finishing as high as we can. My legs are still feeling great so I’ll carry that on helping the Club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do."

The former Fleetwood Town man started Leicester's first two games of the season but was unable to find the back of the net. He'll be hoping to put that right against Southampton on Saturday (August 20) afternoon.
