Football fans have labelled Argentina’s second half World Cup final collapse as “disastrous”.
The Copa America winners appeared to be cruising to their third World Cup triumph after first-half goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria gave them a commanding 2-0 lead. They then dominated the opening 25 minutes of the second half and even looked like adding to their lead.
However, two goals in a breathtaking two minutes from Kylian Mbappe completely ripped the game away from Lionel Messi’s side. And fans have been left aghast by the collapse of Lionel Scaloni’s side, particularly after Messi gave the ball away in the build-up to France's second goal.

“Same old story for these lot,” one fan wrote on social media. “They quit playing football after the first half,” another commented.
“This is what happens when you sub out the engine of the team, Angel Di Maria,” said a frustrated Argentina fan, drawing attending to the second half substitution of the ex-Real Madrid star.
“They always crumble in a fight,” one other football fan tweeted. “Argentina played all match. France played for five minutes. Football isn’t normal,” said another football fan, who chose to reflect on the drama instead of blasting Argentina.

France now appear to be the team in the ascendency after the dramatic turnaround. Mbappe, so often a passenger in the first 70 minutes, is dramatically chasing his hattrick and a possible World Cup clinching goal.
However, Messi thought he had won the World Cup in added time, but his powerful drive from 25 yards out stung the hands of Hugo Lloris.
It was the closing moment of the most dramatic opening 90 minutes any World Cup Final has seen.
