Fans say Vincent Kompany rejected ‘small club’ Spurs as he inks new Burnley deal

Tottenham Hotspur won't be appointing Belgian boss Vincent Kompany after the former Manchester City defender signed a new contract with Burnley.

In his first season managing the Clarets, Kompany has masterminded an incredible campaign that saw Burnley coast to the Championship title, earning them promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The 37-year-old, who was rumoured to be on Tottenham's shortlist for their next manager, has signed a new five-year-deal at Turf Moor which will tie him down for the foreseeable future.

Conversely, who Spurs will appoint as their new manager remains a mystery.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann has been linked with the job which at this point seems like a poisoned chalice given the fortunes of their previous managers.

However, one football fan on social media has been quick to point out that by signing a new deal with Burnley, Kompany has in-fact already turned down "small club" Spurs.

Real Talk Manchester City on Twitter tweeted out: "Kompany rejected Spurs that small club."

Of course, that then drew plenty of ire from Spurs fans, who were quick to point out Kompany couldn't reject Tottenham if he had not even been offered a contract.

One fan wrote on Twitter: "To reject something you have to be offered it."

A second added in a less civil response: "You support a tin pot club with oil trophies. Nobody rejected Spurs and he was never offered it."

A third commented: "I mean he was never offered the job so how could he of rejected us."
