Fans have reacted on social media as Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t hide his frustration as Portugal went behind against Morocco in their quarter-final clash.
Youssef En-Nesyri put the African nation ahead in the first-half as he headed home as Portugal’s keeper Diogo Costa rushed out of his goal and got nowhere near the ball.
As expected, there was a camera on Ronaldo to get the benched star’s reaction, and the 37-year-old gave a big sigh before staring down the camera.
Cristiano Ronaldo looked furious as Portugal went behind against Morocco in the quarter-final
The moment did not go unnoticed on social media, with one Twitter user commenting: ‘Ronaldo looks so p*****.’
Kurt Coslain commented that the benched forward was ‘fuming’ while someone else tweeted that he ‘must be angry’.
Another Twitter user though suggested that Ronaldo wasn’t bothered, tweeting: ‘Care factor zero.’
Ronaldo was again on the bench for the start of Portugal’s clash with Morocco
Ronaldo for the second game in a row started on the bench, with manager Fernando Santos again opting to start Goncalo Ramos- who netted a hat-trick last time out against Switzerland.
Portugal won that last match 6-1, but they struggled to break down Morocco and instead went into the break 1-0 down.
It was a poor goal to give away as En-Nesyri leaped well above Manchester City defender Ruben Dias and headed home into an empty net after keeper Costa failed to get near the ball as he tried to punch it clear.
Ronaldo came on as a second-half substitute to try and rescue the game for Portugal
It didn’t take long for Ronaldo to come on at the start of the second-half, coming on as a 51st minute substitute for midfielder Ruben Neves in an attacking change.
In doing so, Ronaldo equalled FIFA’s record for men’s international caps.
He matched Kuwait’s Badr Al-Mutawa with his 196th appearance, in what will more than likely be his final World Cup.
Ronaldo has not started the last two games, on the back of his angry reaction to being hauled off against South Korea.
Manager Santos admitted he ‘didn’t like’ Ronaldo’s reaction before the game against Switzerland and then dropped him for the game.
