Fans rip into ‘oblivious’ Todd Boehly over Mo Salah and Kevin De Bruyne blunder
Fans have ripped into Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after his Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne blunder.
The Blues chairman has dropped a number of clangers since his consortium purchased the club from Roman Abramovich earlier this year, including asking former manager Thomas Tuchel to use an impossible formation. He has now claimed that the club's academy produced both Salah and De Bruyne, despite them joining the club in their twenties.
Speaking at the SALT Conference in New York City, Boehly claimed: “We’ve got the best women’s team in the world, we’ve got one of the best academies in the world, our academy is Mo Salah, De Bruyne, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Mason Mount, Chalobah.”

The only problem with Boehly's statement, though, is that neither Salah nor De Bruyne actually spent any time in the Chelsea academy.
De Bruyne was signed in 2012 aged 20 from Genk in his native Belgium. Meanwhile, Egyptian winger Salah joined from Swiss side Basel two years later at the age of 21.
Rival fans have been quick to slam the Chelsea owner on social media following his blunder, with one comparing him to Liverpool's former owners: “Boehly epic fail. On a par with Hicks and Gillett.”
Another tweeted: “Unbelievable how much Americans don't know anything about football and still buy clubs and don't even bother to research the club itself.”

A third fan also wrote: “Who’s gonna tell him that Mo Salah & KDB are not Chelsea’s academy products.” Meanwhile, another tweeted: “Oh brother, imagine your owner being completely oblivious about your club.”
One more supporter also commented: “Salah? De Bruyne? What is this man smoking? Lol he has no clue about this sport and this club. He’ll end up liquidating the club.”
Boehly also stated his intention to build a network of teams by buying more clubs abroad, similar to the model adopted by Manchester City and the Red Bull-owned clubs.
However, he has also been the subject of criticism in the past week after sacking Tuchel and replacing him with Graham Potter. That decision came after he had asked Tuchel to line up with 12 players in a 4-4-3 formation.
