Fans pictured protesting at Man Utd training ground as club beef up security

Manchester United have increased security at their training complex as protestors turned up to rally against the Glazer's ownership.

Dozens of security guards have been at Carrington Training Complex as a fan group called ‘The 1958’ demonstrated against the Glazer family. Security guards and stewards were on patrol at every entrance at the training ground, with concerns over having repeated the scenes almost exactly a year ago when the ground was breached.

On Friday, a group held banners that read: “Disgrace. Not fit to wear the shirt” and “Glazers Out.” The police were called by the club, who also released a statement calling the protest 'peaceful'. The protest is thought to be a precursor to the planned demonstration during Norwich’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

United boss Ralf Rangnick said: "We all know that football is a game of passions and emotions and we can all understand. I can understand the supporters being disappointed about where we stand in the table and the performance against Everton.

"I still believe our supporters are one of the best, if not the best in England, as long as they do the protest in a peaceful way and as long as they still support the team in the stadium. They have the right to express their opinion. Emotionally I can understand them being disappointed."

A United statement read: "There was a small and peaceful protest outside the Carrington training ground today. We respect the opinions of fans and remain committed to strengthening our engagement with them.”

The protests come in the wake of United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton last weekend. Frank Lampard’s relegation strugglers earned themselves a valuable three points as United’s chance of a Champions League spot looks ever slimmer.
