Fans joke ‘no one left to present Match of the Day’ after everyone boycotts
Fans have joked there will be no one left to present Match of the Day after a host of pundits stepped down in solidarity with Gary Lineker.
Lineker, the long-time presenter of the famous football show, was axed by the BBC on Friday in response to tweets in which he described the government's Illegal Migration Bill as 'immeasurably cruel', before stating the language used by Home Secretary Suella Braverman was similar to Nazi Germany.
The football legend, 62, was investigated by the BBC but refused to backtrack over his stance, resulting in the broadcaster announcing that he would be stepping away from his iconic role on Match of the Day. A BBC statement said the two parties failed to "agree a position on Lineker’s use of social media".

It was immediately met with widespread public disdain as fans lambasted the BBC’s “spinelessness’. Lineker’s colleagues on the show – friends and fellow former England strikers Ian Wright and Alan Shearer – promptly announced that they would also be stepping down in solidarity.
The pair set the tone for a whole host of other football pundits and presenters to also say they would not be taking Lineker’s place.
Micah Richards wrote: “I was not due to be working on MOTD tomorrow, but if I was, I would find myself taking the same decision that @IanWright0 & @alanshearer have."
Who do you think we will see on Match of the Day this weekend? Let us know in the comments section.
Jermaine Jenas issued the same sentiment, while Alex Scott and Match of the Day 2 presenter Mark Chapman likewise revealed they would not be taking up Lineker’s old role if given the chance.
And it sparked a hilarious response among fans, who began to question whether there was anyone left to talk about this weekend’s Premier League action.
One Twitter user wrote: “Is there anyone left to present Match of the Day tomorrow?”
Another tweeted: “How long before the show is taken off air? Can’t be many options left to hand.”
A third football fan joked: “I'm going to be presenting Match of the Day tomorrow night because there is no one else left to do it.”
And a fourth added: “We’re going to be left with Richard Keys and Andy Gray appearing on match of the day at this rate.”
