Fans in stitches as River Plate unveil statue of ex-manager with raunchy feature

Football fans couldn't believe their eyes after Argentina outfit River Plate unveiled a statue of a former manager with what looked like a massive bulge in his pants.

The 30ft sculpture depicted ex-boss Marcelo Gallardo lifting the Copa Libertadores (South America's equivalent of the Champions League) trophy high above his head, but it was impossible not to notice the trophy-sized swelling just below the waist line.

Gallardo himself was there for the unveiling, and happily posed for pictures in front it, presumably unaware of (or unbothered by) the raunchy protrusion, one that sent social media into a frenzy.

"Well, he looks happy," one supporter joked. "That's the biggest thing I've ever seen, and I'm not talking about the size of the statue," commented another.

A River Plate fan added: "Man, when just when I thought I could stop being horny for Gallardo, this happens." Another said: "He's hiding a concealed weapon."

"It looks nothing like Gallardo, but it's still the best compliment they could have ever given him haha," a third added.

Gallardo, who earned 44 caps for Argentina as a player, spent six years in charge of River Plate, winning 14 major honours with Buenos Aires club, including one Argentine Primera Division title and two Copa Libertadores titles, in 2015 and again in 2018.

He stepped down as manager in 2022, and was linked with a shock move to Chelsea earlier this year after reportedly being recommended by former River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
