Fans confused at ‘levitating’ Rudiger as Chelsea star attempts to block shot
Fans have been left baffled after Antonio Rudiger improvised to block a shot at Wembley.
Despite chances falling to both sides in the FA Cup final between Chelsea and Liverpool, it remained goalless at half-time. While the Reds had efforts saved by Blues keeper Edouard Mendy, the defence also sprung into action to keep Liverpool at bay.
One of those was centre-back Antonio Rudiger, who showed incredible levels of improvisation to block a shot from Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita. The German had his legs in the air and was entirely off the ground, with fans saying he was 'levitating'.
Pictures from pitchside look very amusing, with the defender doing all he can to make sure he blocked the shot. One fan even took to Twitter and said: "Just needs to walk on water and he's jesus tbh."
The FA Cup final gives Rudiger the opportunity to win the last trophy of his Chelsea career, with the German having already agreed a switch to Real Madrid in the summer. Rudier's contract at Stamford Bridge is to expire, meaning he will be joining the Spanish giants for free.
Will Antonio Rudiger be a good signing for Real Madrid? Let us know in the comments section.
According to The Athletic's David Ornstein the centre-back has signed a four-year deal which also includes a £324 million release clause. Chelsea reportedly offered Rudiger around £230,000-per-week, but negotiations were stalled due to sanctions placed against Abramovich.
The centre-back did in fact get on the scoresheet at the Santiago Bernabeu in an entertaining goalfest, when he headed home from a Mason Mount corner to square the tie on aggregate. But it was Carlo Ancelotti's side that went on to win the end-to-end battle in extra-time and book their place in the semi-finals.
It means last season's European champions will surely be dipping into the summer transfer market to buy at least one new centre-back. Andreas Christensen also looks to be swapping Chelsea for Spain, as the Dane is set to join Barcelona when his contract expires in the summer.
