Fans claim ‘justice served’ as Salah blasts penalty miles wide for Liverpool
Mohamed Salah missed a glaring penalty for Liverpool against Bournemouth – and some fans think justice was served with his 'disgusting' howler.
Liverpool were awarded a penalty shortly after the hour mark when the ball struck Cherries star Adam Smith's arm in the box following Diogo Jota's goalbound header. A lengthy VAR check ensued which resulted in the Reds being given a penalty to the dismay of their opposition and rival fans alike.
But the decision had no impact on the match as Salah squandered the effort by blasting it miles wide of the left post and into the stands. And some fans reckon justice was served when Salah skied the penalty attempt – despite BT Sports' commentary team and referee expert Peter Walton saying it was a clear handball.

One fan declared: "Mo Salah missed the penalty, justice served #BOULIV," on a Twitter post where a fellow user moaned: "Liverpool just rob Bournemouth #BOULIV."
And a slew of others chimed in to mock Salah following his skybound blooper. Another fan scoffed: "The penalty was 7 miles away from the pole." Then a third person quipped: "BREAKING, NASA have just found the Ball Salah used during the penalty."

A fourth user chimed in: "Salah penalty miss might be one of the worst penalties I have ever seen." Salah missed the opportunity to bring Liverpool level with Bournemouth following Virgil Van Dijk's defensive blooper at the other end that resulted in the Cherries taking the lead.
Van Dijk decided to stop running after Bournemouth ace Dango Ouattara outpaced him to tee up team-mate Philip Billing who made the score 1-0. And supporters didn't take too kindly to Van Dijk's lack of effort, resulting in a torrent of criticism being aimed at the defender on Twitter.
The unintended help from Salah and Van Dijk gave Bournemouth a much-needed three points as they fight for Premier League survival, and in turn, impeded Liverpool's hopes of a top-four finish. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping his side can put the defeat behind them going into their second round last 16 Champions League clash against bogey side Real Madrid next week.
