Fans brand Championship scuffle as the ‘funniest moment of the season’

Good Friday saw a full list of Championship fixtures played, but there was one which saw the "funniest moment of the season" unfold.

Bristol City travelled to Stoke City with ten points separating the two sides, but tempers flared when Bristol City goalkeeper Daniel Bentley and Stoke's Jacob Brown got in a tangle during the first-half. Brown had been running after the ball down the right channel before Bentley came rushing out from his area.

While Brown tried to get in behind, Bentley appeared to bundle him over the advertising board while holding his leg. The pair were still going at it right in front of the fans at the bet365 Stadium before players from both sides rushed over to de-escalate the bizarre situation.

Footage of the incident was tweeted with a comment which said: "This may just be the funniest thing you’ll see this season." Fans started replying to the Tweet to discuss who they felt was in the wrong.

One person said: "Why does the defender keep this arm round his neck? Easy to take it off and then wouldn’t be an issue? With the keeper here he saw the ball out!"

While one other person wrote: "The Stoke player didn't even do anything wrong!" Another user replied: "How is that not obstruction from the goalkeeper? Football has some awful rules and decisions."

Fans were also treated to an entertaining end to the game, as an equally bizarre moment saw Bristol City take all three points. Just minutes after Stoke rattled the crossbar, Jay Dasilva received the ball on the left side of the pitch and looped an overhit cross into the far corner.

The result moves Bristol City up to 18th in the Championship table, while Stoke remain in 15th place.

Both teams return to action on Monday.
