A fan at Tuesday night’s Manchester City-Bayern Munich game in the Champions League quarterfinals decided to constantly remind Alphonso Davies of what country he plays for.

Throughout the first half of the clash, a fan repeatedly sang just the first two words to ‘O Canada’ whenever Davies touched the ball.

Davies, a starter with the Canadian national team, just played in his first FIFA World Cup with Les Rouges this fall in Qatar.

But his performance on the night in Manchester was lacking – as was the rest of the team – as Bayern fell 3-0 to City in the first leg of the quarterfinals.

Davies played 81 minutes, completed 52 of 53 attempted passes, and put up a single shot that was off target.

Meanwhile, Manchester City was able to break through early thanks to a goal from Rodri with a wonder strike from beyond the box.

The second and third goals could be chalked up to defensive errors. Dayot Upamecano turned over the ball just a few yards out from his own box and a perfect Erling Haaland cross found Bernardo Silva’s head.

Minutes later, a cross whipped in found the head of John Stones over Davies and Benjamin Pavard. Stones’ ball found Haaland – who was unmarked by Upamecano – for the easy turn-in.

The return leg of the fixture is set to take place on April 19 at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
