The family of the world's richest footballer who is worth more than Richard Branson own a rug that cost an eye-watering £5million.

Faiq Bolkiah is estimated to have a net worth of £16billion to his name, an amount which dwarfs the net worth of billionaire Branson and every other player in the history of the beautiful game.

The Virgin tycoon is estimated to be worth a measly £2.9billion.

Bolkiah, who is the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, had spells in the youth academies of Premier League sides Chelsea, Arsenal, Southampton and most recently Leicester.

His privileged background allowed him to pursue his dream of playing football – and his family truly have no limits thanks to their wealth.

It emerged several years ago that Faiq's father, Jefri, had once splashed £5m on a gold rug embroidered with 25,000 precious stones that was made in 1993.

The phrase 'more money than sense' springs to mind, but the Bolkiah family are running out of things to buy.

Jefri is believed to have had 2,300 cars at one point in his life, with Rolls-Royces, Ferraris and Bentleys stocking up his garages.

Purchasing vehicles has therefore probably grown tiresome.

He was also said to be spending £35m every month on luxury items.

One of his most costly expenses is his yacht, which is emblazoned with the name 'T**s' and has tenders called 'Nipple 1' and 'Nipple 2'.

Perhaps the most outlandish purchase Jefri made, though, was paying Michael Jackson £12.5m to fly in and perform a private concert for Faiq's seventh birthday.

Since meeting the King of Pop, the now 23-year-old has struggled to get his football career going.

He has played six times internationally in midfield for Brunei, but his latest attempt to play professionally at club level has failed.

Bolkiah was released from his contract with Portuguese side Maritimo this week after only joining in the summer.

His next move is uncertain, but one thing is for sure – he shouldn't have any money issues while he's out of a job.
