Family makes 5,500 mile journey to watch Gareth Bale but he’s left out of squad
A Welsh family made a 5,500 mile journey to watch Gareth Bale play only for him to be left out of the matchday squad.
The Timms family from Porthcrawl had planned to watch the Welshman play for Los Angeles FC during their summer holiday in the USA and had bought tickets for one of the club's recent MLS matches. However, they were left "gutted" after Bale was not included in the matchday squad for the match they attended.
Luckily for parents Rebecca and James Timms and their teenage sons Ryan, 15, and Matty, 13, the club invited to their training ground after learning of their journey.

There the family were given the chance to meet Bale, who posed for pictures with the Cardiff City fans and signed their hats. He also apologised by saying: "sorry I wasn't playing".
Mum Rebecca admitted, via The Sun: "We were totally gutted. We only realised when the boys were hanging over the railing waiting for him to come out of the players entrance. The boys had a Welsh flag hoping to get Gareth’s attention when he came on the pitch."
Bale has made six appearances and scored twice since joining LAFC on a free transfer from Real Madrid back in July. He was absent from the recent home matches against Charlotte FC and DC United, before returning against the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday.

Rebecca went on to add: "We planned our holiday and we always try to get an MLS match in and obviously once Gareth Bale was coming, we knew that this had to be the match for us.
"We were hoping and praying Bale would play. Unfortunately he didn't. But we've been so fortunate to be invited here to the LAFC training ground to come and see training and see Bale."
Meanwhile, Bale later said: "Sorry I wasn't playing the other day, I hope you all enjoy your holiday, and nice to meet you."
Following a nine-year spell with Real Madrid, Bale completed his move to the MLS this summer after his contract with the Spanish giants expired at the end of last season.
He will be hoping to avoid injury and stay fit for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, where Wales will be appearing for the first time since 1958.
