FA investigating alleged spitting incident during Forest v Wolves

Chelsea v Aston Villa: Pictures

The FA have confirmed they are investigating an incident during Nottingham Forest and Wolves’ 1-1 draw on Saturday. Daniel Podence was alleged to have spat on Brennan Johnson during the relegation six-pointer but avoided punishment after a VAR review.

Podence equalised in the 83rd minute after Johnson had fired Forest into a first-half lead at the City Ground.

However, the Portuguese forward made headlines for a separate incident in stoppage time when VAR reviewed a possible red card offence.

Johnson appeared to complain to referee Chris Kavanagh that Podence had spat in his face in the closing stages.

VAR Neil Swarbrick didn’t recommend that Kavanagh issued a red card after declaring the footage at Stockley Park inconclusive.

But the FA are now looking into the incident, which could prompt serious repercussions for Podence if the 27-year-old is found guilty.
