The FA will face four charges from UEFA following the chaotic scenes at Wembley that marred Sunday's Euro 2020 final between England and Italy.

Supporters were seen fighting amongst themselves outside the ground, while hundreds of fans made their way into the stadium without tickets.

There were also reports of missiles being thrown and flares being let off as thousands gathered along Wembley Way before the match.

UEFA has charged The FA with four offences and explained each of the charges in a statement released on Tuesday afternoon.

It read: "Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA EURO 2020 final match between the national teams of Italy and England (1-1, Italy won 3-2 on penalties), played on 11 July at Wembley Stadium, London.

Charges against The English Football Association :

• Invasion of the field of play by its supporters – Article 16(2)(a) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

• Throwing of objects by its supporters – Article 16(2)(b) DR

• Disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem – Article 16(2)(g) DR

• Lighting of a firework by its supporters – Article 16(2)(c) DR

"The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course.

"Separately, and in accordance with Article 31(4) DR, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium.

"Information on this matter will be made available in due course."

Despite pleas from England boss Gareth Southgate not to do so, some supporters inside Wembley booed the Italian national anthem just before kick-off.

The match was also interrupted late on as a topless streaker made his way onto the pitch and evaded hapless stewards for around a minute.

This latest UEFA investigation comes just under one week since The FA was fined £25,630 for the behaviour of England fans during the Euro 2020 semi-final with Denmark.

On that occasion, England were punished after a fan shone a laser in the face of Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and some fans set off fireworks and booed the Danish national anthem.
