FA Cup quarter-final draw live

  • FA Cup quarter-final draw to be conducted approximately 7.45pm
  • Time will be delayed if Wolves vs Southampton requires extra time
  • Draw to be conducted before Barnsley host Chelsea at Oakwell in 8pm kick-off
  • Manchester United, Manchester City and Everton among teams in the pot
  • Quarter-final ties take place the weekend of Saturday March 20

Game over

7.30pm: Seven of the eight fifth-round ties are now complete as Wolves bow out to Southampton at Molineux.

Danny Ings’ and Stuart Armstrong’s second-half efforts have put the Saints through and the south coast club will be ball number four in the draw.

As a result of that match being decided inside 90 minutes, the quarter-final draw should get underway at around 7.45pm as initially planned.

Southampton thought they had a late penalty in the Midlands to try and make it 3-0 though VAR overturned the decision after replays showed Joao Moutinho fouled Nathan Tella outside of the box.

Tonight’s games

7.15pm: Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea take on Barnsley tonight as the German gets his first taste of this competition.

The Blues’ 3-1 win over Luton Town served as predecessor Frank Lampard’s final match in charge of Chelsea on January 24.

Chelsea have won their last three games and face a Barnsley side sat 13th in the Championship.

Elsewhere, there’s another all-Premier League match underway at the moment between Wolves and Southampton at Molineux, with the away team in the lead.

Wolves almost made the final two years ago but threw away a 2-0 lead at Wembley to lose 3-2 before victors Watford were hammered 6-0 in the final by Man City.

Pick of the bunch

7pm: Of course, there’s one fifth-round tie that we’ve not mentioned there – one that deserves its own text box entirely.

Everton’s clash with Tottenham last night at Goodison Park was a breathless nine-goal affair which was arguably the most exciting domestic match of the season.

Tottenham led 1-0 inside three minutes before three strikes in seven minutes saw the Toffees go 3-1 up, having their lead reduced by Erik Lamela shortly before the break.

Davinson Sanchez’s second goal of the game made it 3-3 before Richarlison put the hosts back in the lead.

Harry Kane equalised to force extra time before Bernard delivered the decisive goal in extra time.

Everton are looking for their first piece of silverware since 1995 when they won the FA Cup. They have reached the final just once since then, losing 2-1 to Chelsea in 2008-09.

Man Utd: Solskjaer pleased with response in cup win

The fifth-round results

6.45pm: So how did the teams in the hat (well, pot) get here? Manchester United needed 120 minutes to get past West Ham at Old Trafford in a dull encounter.

Scott McTominay’s 97th minute effort, his seventh goal of the season, was enough for United to make the last eight for a seventh successive season.

The same evening saw Championship hopefuls Bournemouth dump out Burnley, with Barnsley looking to join their fellow second-tier team in the quarters tonight, though they face a tricky encounter against Chelsea.

Premier League leaders Manchester City beat another team hoping for a Premier League return this season with a 3-1 victory at Swansea last night.

Leicester required a 94th minute intervention from Kelechi Iheanacho to get past Brighton.

While Sheffield United continued to ease their league woes with victory at home to Bristol City.

Welcome

6pm: Good evening and welcome to Express Sport’s live coverage of tonight’s FA Cup quarter-final draw.

Six teams have already guaranteed their spot in the next stage of the tournament and at approximately 7.45pm we’ll find out who will face who.

The draw will be done from BT Sport studios with Reshmin Choudhury to host and Karen Carney drawing out the balls.

Sadly we might not get any more Rod Stewart action this evening, after Peter Crouch conducted the fourth and fifth round draw in brilliant style last time out.

Anyway, here’s a reminder of the ball numbers…

1 AFC Bournemouth
2 Manchester United
3 Sheffield United
4 Southampton
5 Barnsley or Chelsea
6 Everton
7 Manchester City
8 Leicester City
