FA Cup 1st round tie ordered to be replayed despite 3rd round having been drawn
Forest Green Rovers have been ordered to replay their FA first round tie against Scarborough Athletic after fielding an ineligible player.
League Two Rovers needed a replay to defeat the National League North side, eventually coming through 5-2 at The New Lawn. That seemingly set up a second round tie against Blackpool, which was originally due to be played last weekend.
However, that tie was called off at less than 24 hours notice after it emerged that Forest Green were subject to an FA investigation. It has now emerged that it was due to David Horseman's side fielding an ineligible player against Scarborough in the first round.

As the investigation remained ongoing over the weekend, Blackpool and Forest Green were both included in Sunday's draw for the third round. The winners of the replayed tie between FGR and Scarborough, and the subsequent match between either of those two and Blackpool, will be rewarded with a third round tie at home to Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
The Football Association said that a committee has ruled that the original tie between Forest Green and Scarborough will now be replayed on Tuesday, 12 December.

An FA statement read: "The FA charged Forest Green Rovers for fielding an ineligible player in the Emirates FA Cup first round proper tie against Scarborough Athletic, which constitutes a breach of FA Cup Rule 109, and Forest Green Rovers subsequently admitted this charge."
Scarborough will host the rearranged tie at the Flamingo Land Stadium, which will be played to a finish on the night. The winner of that match will then face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, 19 December.
Forest Green are not the first team to field an ineligible player in the competition this season. Barnsley were chucked out of the FA Cup altogether after it emerged they had done the same thing against Horsham in round one. Horsham replaced the Tykes in round two, where they lost to Sutton United.
