The FA have released a statement confirming that they will not play against Russia in international fixtures amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Football Association released a statement on Sunday confirming that, out of solidarity, they will not play any matches against Russia as they condemn the action of Vladimir Putin’s forces in Ukraine.
This comes shortly after the FIFA were encouraged to take action against Russia and ban them from the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
English football fans showed their support for Ukraine prior to the Carabao Cup final
In a statement released on Twitter, the FA said: ‘Out of solidarity with the Ukraine and to wholeheartedly condemn the atrocities being committed by the Russian leadership, The FA can confirm that we won’t play against Russia in any international fixtures for the foreseeable future.
‘This includes any potential match at any level of senior, age group or para football.’
The news comes shortly after Chelsea and Liverpool showed their solidarity with Ukraine prior to kick-off at the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

The Ukrainian flag was displayed prior to the Carabao Cup final in a showing of solidarity
The first event this could effect would be the Women’s European Championships in July – a tournament being hosted by England which Russia are scheduled to compete in.
Having qualified via the play-offs, Russia were one of the last teams to be entered into the competition.
FIFA have not banned Russia from the 2022 World Cup but have imposed certain rules on the country’s team, who are to be known as RFU, and must play at neutral venues behind closed-doors with no flags allowed.
