Ex-Villa star shining for SK Slovan after swapping Birmingham for Bratislava
Ex-Aston Villa star Andre Green is on fire for new club SK Slovan after swapping Birmingham for Bratislava.
The England youth international, 23, has registered 14 goals and six assists as well as bagging the Super Liga title in his debut season. Green completed a permanent transfer to the Slovakian capital last summer following Sheffield Wednesday's relegation to League One.
After dropping down to the third-tier, he was linked with several top Championship outfits and could have opted to climb his way back to the Premier League, but Green believes his disputed decision to head abroad was the right choice.
He told The Sun: "Coming and joining Bratislava was a daunting experience but no one else my age or English has experienced coming out here. I get messages of support on Instagram from Lyle Taylor and Conor Gallagher. A few have said that it is an inspiration, which is good.
"Every year I gain experience, but this has been the most valuable to progress my career. I needed this to kickstart everything back up again and I am more confident than I have ever been."

A key part of Villa's 2019 promotion-winning side, Green failed to make a top-flight appearance for his boyhood club and was shipped out on loan to Preston North End at the start of the following season.
Also unfavored at Deepdale, he returned to his parent club in January before being sent out to Charlton Athletic – but the coronavirus pandemic stunted his progress in the capital and Villa announced he would be released at the end of his contract.
Following 15 years on the books with the Villans, Green found himself club-less for six months, before Sheffield Wednesday offered him a short-term deal. But the Owls suffered defeat in a dramatic final day decider against Derby County and were relegated back to League One for the first time in 10 years.
Green continued: "My career went through a few years of stop, start with injuries and Covid so I needed to go away, reset and build myself back up. I thought Slovan would be the best place for me to play week in, week out, which I needed at this critical point in my career.
"There is less pressure here, nobody knows you so you are making your name again. Thankfully, it is working out. In the future, the next move from here won't be as difficult for me. The next one will be easy."
