Ex-Premier League star and MOTD pundit Jermaine Jenas is banned from driving

Jermaine Jenas has been banned from driving for six months after being caught using a mobile phone while driving.

The ex-Newcastle and England midfielder was spotted in his Range Rover in Stanmore, north London back on October 14, 2021.

The One Show host was also caught speeding on the M25 on March 4 earlier this year, going 65mph in a 50mph. Jenas admitted both offences at Willesden Magistrates' Court earlier this month.

As well as being banned from driving for six moths, the former Tottenham star was also handed six penalty points and fined £660 for using a mobile phone while driving. He was fined a further £1,410, another three penalty points and ordered to pay £231 in others costs for speeding.

While giving evidence to the court, PC Neil Cornelius said: “I noticed that the driver of this vehicle was using a handheld mobile device whilst driving. The device was being held in both their hands.”

After being prosecuted in June earlier this year, the 39-year-old pleaded guilty to both charges and was expected to be sentenced on October 19. However, the court hearing was moved forward by a week.

The former England international played 21 times for his country across 2003 and 2009 while also enjoying a decent career at the top level, albeit blighted by injuries.

Starting out at Nottingham Forest, Jenas went on to make 350 appearances for Newcastle and Tottenham before spells at Aston Villa, Forest and QPR.

Since retiring, Jenas has made a career in media – co-commentating for BT Sport as well as appearing as host for BBC's MOTDx. In 2020, he also began co-presenting The One Show for the BBC in a move away from football.
