Ex-Man Utd wonderkid who came through ranks with Rashford now on trial at Luton

Former Manchester United star Axel Tuanzebe is on trial with Premier League newbies Luton Town.

Tuanzebe is still without a club after being released by the Red Devils earlier in the summer. The 25-year-old came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford with Marcus Rashford and made 37 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He spent time last season on loan at Stoke City in the Championship but an injury restricted him to just five appearances. He has also had three separate stints at Aston Villa in the past, plus a brief temporary spell at Napoli during the 2021-22 season.

However, after 17 years at United across all groups, he is now looking for a new club altogether following his release. Tuanzebe is said to have turned down several offers from Saudi Arabia during the summer, including one that has been described as life-changing.

He has been following an individual rehab program with a team of dedicated physios and coaches, so that he can reduce the risk of any more injuries. Tuanzebe has spent time at St George's Park, where he completed his program injury free.

And there now appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the defender in the form of Premier League first-timers Luton. The ex-England U21 star has received interest from clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga, Turkish Super Lig and Saudi Arabia, but opted to train with the Hatters.

He began full contract training with the Kenilworth Road side on Sunday. Tuanzebe's signing would represent a major coup for the newly-promoted club, who are facing an uphill struggle to remain in the top division.

Luton were left with no illusion of the size of the task ahead of them following a 4-1 defeat to Brighton on the opening day. Their next match is against Chelsea on Friday night, in a fixture that will be screened live on Sky Sports.
