Ex-Man Utd hero urges Erik ten Hag to sign ‘Erling Haaland 2.0’ this summer

Louis Saha has urged Manchester United to consider signing Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

United are in urgent need of a striker in the summer transfer window to help Marcus Rashford’s efforts in front of goal next season.

Erik ten Hag’s side have scored the lowest amount of goals by any side in the top seven of the Premier League, scoring just three goals more than relegation battling Leicester City.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have been the most prominently linked with filling the striker void at Old Trafford but Saha told DAZN Bet that United should move for 20-year-old Hojlund as an alternative to the renowned duo.

“There are not many alternatives to Kane for Man Utd. Victor Osimhen is an obvious one at the moment, though, he’s scoring a lot of goals for Napoli. Very fit, very strong and agile. But it may take him more time to adapt.

“There is a young boy in Hojlund at Atalanta. But no one offers the guarantees like Kane does,” Saha said.

Hojlund has scored five times in four senior caps for Denmark alongside eight goals in 30 games so far this season for Atalanta after joining in the summer from Sturm Graz for £15million.

The Danish international was previously likened to Haaland by his Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini who said:

“The characteristics are very similar, especially in accelerations.

"He is a very fast player, he does the 100 meters in less than 11 seconds. For his height, he has a low centre of gravity and an incredible stride frequency.

“I’m convinced he will have a great career. Technically, he always shows different and better things.”

United are set to sign a new marksman in the summer as a top priority amid Wout Weghorst’s loan deal unlikely to be made permanent next season.

Hojlund could be a cut price option compared to Kane and Osimhen if Ten Hag’s budget remains as tight as it was in January.
