Ex-Liverpool ace Pepe Reina fumes Ronaldo winner for Man U shouldn’t have stood
Liverpool icon Pepe Reina has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo's last-minute winner, against Villarreal in the Champions League last Wednesday, should have been ruled out.
The Spanish side had looked dangerous all evening, and they broke the deadlock just after half-time as Arnaut Danjuma teed up Paco Alcacer, who turned the ball past David De Gea.
However, Alex Telles' wondergoal levelled the scoreboard, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side pushed for a winner – which they found through Ronaldo in the 95th minute.
But Reina took to social media to claim that Ronaldo's strike should have been chalked off by the referee.
Reina tweeted: "Offside all day long…"
The goalkeeper wasn't suggesting that the Portuguese megastar was offside, instead, he was looking at Jesse Lingard, who had just entered the pitch.
Lingard was on the floor in front of Villarreal's keeper, Gerónimo Rulli, who used to be on the books of United's rivals Manchester City, potentially restricting his movement.
However, fans were quick to claim that Lingard had not affected Rulli's eye-line, meaning he wasn't involved in the phase of play.
