Representing your national football team is an honour and a privilege very, very few footballers experience in their entire careers.
Determination, bravery, and tactical awareness are often not enough as players needs a phenomenal amount of pure talent and quality just to be selected for the squad, let alone be chosen.
But above all else, the national football team demands players who are not only unique and special in their abilities, but are also strong and dependable characters.
And on the subject of unique characters and special talents, former Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough defender David Wheater revealed his special talent which left Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard wide-eyed in amazement.
“I’ve got a shower trick as well, it’s a good shower trick – I can hide my willy,” Wheater said with pride to the ‘Undr the Cosh’ podcast.
“I showed the lads like Gerrard and [Peter] Crouch in the showers, then afterwards I’m thinking well again ‘what am I doing here’.
“I learnt it, well I didn’t learn it, I did it by accident when I was a bit younger.
“When I was younger, there was one time I was playing with it, and it disappeared.

“It’s not when you tuck it, it was when I squeezed it, and it goes back in.”
The no-nonsense defender was called up the Three Lions squad twice by former manager Fabio Capello, but he was unfortunate to never get an appearance for his country.
However, it does not mean he was not able to assert himself and his talent on the national team, to the point he is still often thought of to this day.
He was called up to the squad at the same time as former team mate at the time Stewart Downing, who wasted no time in informing the rest of the squad of his ‘Shower trick’.

“Stewie (Steward Downing) told them, because I used to do it in Middlesbrough,” said Wheater.
“So I’m like livening it up, squeezing it, and then I push it back down. Yeah I’d hide it, and then I pretended to screw it back on, and it pops back out.”
When asked what the other England players thought of his talent, Wheater said: “Oh they loved it yeah.”
