Ex-Arsenal ace is now worth mega £10bn – and hasn’t ruled out owning the Gunners

Former Arsenal star Mathieu Flamini has hinted that he could try and buy the Gunners with his newfound billionaire status.

Flamini will be best known to most as the tenacious midfielder who spent the best years of his career in north London. The former France star made 153 appearances for Arsenal during his first spell at the club, winning the FA Cup and coming a whisker away from winning the Champions League in 2006.

He returned for a second stint in 2013, making a further 93 appearances following a five year stretch at AC Milan. During his playing days in 2010, Flamini showed plenty of entrepreneurial verve, setting up GFBiochemicals as a side-project off the pitch.

Fast forward 13 years and Flamini still has a 60% stake in the firm and is now its CEO. And according to Forbes, it has earned him a rather tidy sum. The ex-Arsenal star now has a reported net worth of £10billion, making him rich enough to buy any Premier League club he wants – including the Gunners.

Flamini was asked about the subject during an interview with The Athletic – and he gave an interesting response. He said: "Obviously, those clubs [Arsenal and Marseille] have a special place in my heart.

"I never forget where I come from. In life, you never know but it’s all about the right opportunity. I’m a real believer in the right time, right place, right people. We’ll see what the future is made of. I’m a believer.

"If you want something very much, the universe usually brings it to you “Let’s see what the universe will bring."

The aim of Flamini's company is to find a green alternative to damaging petrochemicals, which are found in plastics, rubber and even shower gel. But it seems though it could also end up with the 39-year-old taking over at Arsenal in the future.
