Evra admitted to getting Man Utd training suspended before Gary Neville’s rant
Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has previously admitted to “almost killing” Gary Neville in training. Neville mentioned Evra in a rant on Sky Sports on Saturday and it appears his claim is justified.
Neville was not happy with the decision which saw Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones sent off against Tottenham. The former right-back was on co-commentary for the match and insisted straight away that VAR should not recommend a pitchside review after a yellow card was initially awarded.
But VAR did tell Simon Hooper to review the incident and the card was upgraded to red to Neville’s dismay. After the match he vented his frustration at the decision, claiming he would often receive challenges like Jones’ in training from the likes of Evra and Nani.
Neville said: “I actually remember playing against Nani in training. Nani used to put his foot over the ball to try and pull it back and drag it away.

“A lot of players do it. Patrice Evra used to do it against me in training. Sometimes you’d go ‘You’ve done me there’. But they haven’t, it’s what they do to protect the ball, you try and bring it away.”
Neville may have shrugged off many of Evra’s tackles but one in particular may have riled him. Evra revealed earlier this year that Sir Alex Ferguson was forced to suspend training because of a challenge he made on Neville.
He claims he two-footed Neville in the chest after he refused to apologise for an earlier tackle. Evra said on his YouTube channel: “I nearly killed Gary Neville, I’ll be honest with you. Sir Alex Ferguson stopped the training about that.
“So I remember, I get the ball. Then Gary Neville comes and he tackled me. He got the ball but he got a little bit of me so I was on the floor. And I looked at him and he was standing there.

“And I said ‘Gary, you won’t say sorry?’ He looked at me and said ‘f*** off’. When he said that, that’s what brought me back to the streets, the hood. I was like ‘ahhhh fine’. I just stood up. I cleaned my shin. I said ‘game on’.
“The ball arrived to his chest. I go and run and I put my two legs into his chest. He jumped also, so I put my two legs into his chest. He did a backflip.
