Everton star Yerry Mina mocked for celebration in middle of penalty shootout

Yerry Mina risked embarrassment by extravagantly celebrating after scoring his penalty in Colombia's shoot out against Uruguay despite there being two kicks to go.

The Everton defender, who scored against England at the 2018 World Cup but didn't step up in the shootout, came up third on Saturday and buried his penalty past Fernando Muslera.

That made the scoreline 3-2 after six kicks, with Miguel Borja getting the winner after Luis Suarez scored before Matias Vina missed to put Colombia into a semi-final against Argentina.

While Reinaldo Rueda's side celebrated as a team following their progression, Twitter erupted after seeing how Mina enjoyed his own success from 12 yards.

Having found the back of the net, Mina sucked on his thumb while looking down the camera before pulling out some dance moves as Muslera considered his near miss.

While some fans enjoyed Mina's joy, others thought he was being unprofessional, considering that the shootout hadn't finished and his side still could've gone out.

One viewer said: "Never have I ever seen a player celebrating like this after taking a 3rd penalty, far from professional."

With another adding: "How many people crying?, Mina just dancing, for love of Jesus!"

Earlier this year, Mina spoke about the love for Everton in his home nation, thanks to his own move to the club in 2018 and their signing of James Rodriguez last summer.

He told their official website: “Everton in Colombia are El maximo.

“The biggest thing there is. They are massive. We get a feeling how big an impact Everton are making in our country and I am really grateful for that support.

“The word Everton is on everyone’s lips, all the time.

“I chat to family members at home and they’ll tell me, ‘Everton were on television the other day, everyone was talking about how well they are doing, what a big family it is’.

“This support is very important for the team.

“Hopefully, myself and James can carry on doing our little bit for the Club, to make sure we get even more followers, not just in Colombia but around the world.”
