Everton legend Duncan Ferguson ‘set for manager’s job’ as Toffees hunt new boss

Everton legend Duncan Ferguson is set for his first managerial job while the club scramble for a new boss.

The former striker has been appointed Everton’s caretaker manager on two occasions in the past. He also worked as Frank Lampard’s assistant manager, before leaving the post in search of his own management opportunities last July.

With Lampard being sacked on Monday after a dismal run of form which puts the Toffees joint bottom in the Premier League, Ferguson has been linked with steadying the ship once more.

But according to The Times, the Blues icon is expected to take on a different role. It has been claimed the 51-year-old is set to be named manager of Forest Green Rovers.

The report claims Ferguson has already met with Forest Green club officials. And confirmation of the appointment could come as soon as Thursday.

The League One side share a similarity with Everton in that they also sit bottom of the table, having recently parted ways with Ian Burchnall. Their next fixture is away at Shrewsbury Town this weekend, having failed to win in seven league matches.

Ferguson’s last spell as an interim manager came after the sacking of Rafael Benitez last January. He then took the role of assistant alongside Lampard after being interviewed for the role of manager, staying on to ensure the club secured Premier League safety.

Meanwhile, the Goodison club are still without a manager. The likes of Marcelo Bielsa, Sean Dyche, Sam Allardyce and Ralph Hasenhuttl have all been linked with the job but there is no clear front-runner as of yet.

Everton were thrown into even greater disarray when majority owner Farhad Moshiri put the club up for sale within a day of Lampard’s sacking.
