Everton flop James Rodriguez returns to Europe as he goes for Olympiacos medical

James Rodriguez is set to return to Europe as he turns his back on the millions of Qatar in favour of a loan move to Olympiacos.

The Colombian moved to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan last summer after leaving Everton following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti. However, it hasn't been a happy time for Rodriguez in the Middle East, and he looks set to end his desert nightmare.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Rodriguez is already in Piraeus as he undergoes a medical ahead of the loan deal. Romano states there is a 'verbal agreement in place', and if all goes as planned 'James will sign later today'.

Olympiacos will cover €2million (£1.7million), and Al-Rayyan will take the other €4million (£3.5million) of his annual wages.

Rodriguez will link up with former Real Madrid team-mate Marcelo under the Southern European sun. The Brazilian full-back moved to Greece earlier this month after his contract at Real expired earlier this summer.

The Greek side have also acquired the services of ex-Atletico Madrid star Sime Vrsaljko, while former French star Mathieu Valbuena is already at the club.

Rodriguez's last spell in Europe ended in a bitter split from Everton after he struggled to emulate the performances that saw him once touted as a potential Ballon d'Or winner.

Before his spell on Merseyside, Rodriguez had started for both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
