Everton fans say ‘he’s alive’ as Gylfi Sigurdsson seen in rare family picture
Everton fans were left saying “he’s alive” after Gylfi Sigurdsson was spotted in a rare picture.
Sigurdsson was released by Everton after his contract expired last summer.
The 33-year-old free agent was linked with Turkish giants Galatasaray following his departure from Goodison Park, though the move failed to materialise despite him being offered £1.7million-a-year.
Details surrounding the Icelandic international’s future and his current whereabouts since have been scarce. But his wife Alexandra Ivarsdottir has offered a rare update by posting a picture alongside the footballer and their daughter on Instagram.
The 2008 Miss Iceland winner and chef, who has 17,000 followers on the platform, captioned the picture: “La familia.”
It prompted Everton fans to take to Twitter, with one user writing: “He’s alive,” along with a screenshot of the post.
Another tweeted: “It’s been a while since I've seen or even heard about him.”
A third added: “I miss him on grass,” while a fourth commented: “Come back Siggy.”
Everton signed Sigurdsson from Swansea for £44.5m in 2017 during Ronald Koeman’s tenure.
The midfielder was a regular starter for the Toffees until the end of the 2020/21 season and was the club’s top goal-scorer in the 2018/19 campaign. He managed 31 goals for the Blues in 156 appearances.
The playmaker first came through Reading’s youth system before joining Hoffenheim.
Sigurdsson rose to prominence during a loan spell at Swansea in 2012, after which he joined Tottenham for two years and later Swansea again. He notched 50 goals for Swansea and Tottenham prior to his Everton move.
He has not played for Iceland, for whom he has 78 caps, since 2020.
