Everton fans are calling for Frank Lampard to be sacked after their 3-2 defeat to relegation rivals Burnley.

The former England international was only appointed as Toffees boss at the end of January, but has since lost six of his eight Premier League games in charge, and things are beginning to look very gloomy.

The Merseyside club have not been relegated since 1951, but now sit just one point above the relegation zone, despite spending over £500million on new players since Farhad Moshiri’s arrival in February 2016.

Despite only a short stint in charge, the majority of Everton fans seem ready to see yet another change in manager.

The Toffees have just nine games left to save their Premier League status, but opting for a third manager of the season, will that help them change their fortunes – faithful supporters seem to think so.

One fan stating: ‘We can still stay up but not with Lampard in charge. Absolutely no chance with him.

Another quick to say: ‘Lampard out of his depth, we went inexperienced over experienced as the club listened to a vocal minority of fans, he looks lost drained and clueless.

A third added: ‘Absolutely abysmal, clueless at the back, we are atrocious, can’t see us getting a win anywhere in those last 9 fixtures! Can see Lampard walking away before the end of the season.’

Another saying: ‘Get rid of Lampard tonight.’

The latest defeat is yet another setback, as  Nathan Collins scored early for the hosts Burnley, but two Richarlison penalties — the second of which was heavily disputed by Burnley boss Sean Dyche — saw Everton take control.

The Toffees took a 2-1 lead into the break but Jay Rodriguez’s second-half equaliser and Maxwel Cornet’s dramatic late winner clinched the three points for Burnley.

But some Toffees fans are still backing the former Chelsea and Derby County boss and insist it’s not his fault they’ve been pulled into a relegation battle.

One fan said: ‘Lampard deserves to see this through. He can turn this round. I believe in him and I speak for the rest of Everton fans when I say back lampard and trust the process.

Another added: ‘Lampard isn’t to blame for this mess but he’s not pulling us out of it either.

‘We need to somehow limp over the line but we’re too busy shipping 3 to 4 every week.

‘Kenny at fault for 2 tonight, granted Patterson is injured but how long have we persisted with this kind of shite?.

A third insisted: ‘We’ve got worse under Lampard by the way. Not his fault we’re in this mess but no one can convince me he’s the guy to keep us up.’
