Everton boss Frank Lampard claims that he will hold talks with club’s former manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who upset fans by fleeing to Real Madrid during the summer. Lampard held his first press conference as Toffees boss on Thursday, in which he outlined his plans and ambitions for the season.

Lampard and Ancelotti worked together at Chelsea while the former was still dictating games as a midfielder.

Years down the line, the Englishman appears keen to discuss his former boss’ recent experiences at Goodison Park, despite angering fans by abruptly leaving the club just months ago.

Ancelotti was a long-term managerial target for Everton, and many felt that he was quick to jump ship when an opportunity to return to the Bernabeu emerged.

The board then turned to Rafa Benitez, an appointment which ended in January after a torrid run of form.

And while Lampard seemingly has no plans to talk with the former Liverpool boss, whose popularity plummeted at Goodison Park after a downturn in form, he did say that Ancelotti is likely to receive a call.

“I didn’t speak to either Carlo Ancelotti or Rafa Benitez,” Lampard admitted.

“Carlo is a gentleman and I will speak to him but I didn’t want any preconceptions.”

It remains to be seen how Everton fans will take the news that Lampard will seek advice from a broadly unpopular name on Merseyside, but he did share other feelings which are likely to lift spirits.

Toffees fans will undoubtedly be keen to see midfield duo Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli in action after their double deadline day arrival.

Both players have a point to prove after being starved of game time at Manchester United and Tottenham respectively, and both have already been spotted working hard in training.

“Dele and Donny are very different cases,” he added.

“Sometimes it’s good to get a player with a point to prove. They’ve got the hunger.

“A fresh slate [will be good] for Dele Alli, but also to push him to extract what’s there.

“I just have to find the right environment for him.

“I’m very excited to have him and Donny.”
