Everton ‘begin talks’ with Andrea Pirlo as Carlo Ancelotti replacement
Everton have reportedly begun talks with former Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo to take over as their head coach following the surprise departure of Carlo Ancelotti.
Ancelotti left the Merseyside club to return to Real Madrid, who he coached between 2013 and 2015, winning the Champions League and Copa del Rey in that tenure.
The departure was largely unexpected, with many believing that Ancelotti would serve out his contract which was due to run out in 2024 and lead them to a new era and new stadium.
Now, however, Italian outlet Calcio Mercato have reported that former Juventus coach Pirlo is being considered as a replacement for Ancelotti.
Pirlo left his role at Juventus last week after a season where they finished fourth, losing the Serie A title for the first time in nine years.
They did, however, win the Coppa Italia and managed to confirm Champions League qualification on the final day of the season, piping Napoli to the last spot.
Appointing Pirlo as a manager at Juventus was a risky move that ultimately didn’t pay off – he only earned his coaching badges 10 days before getting the job.
His inexperience often showed in big games and were particularly exposed in the Champions League, where they lost to FC Porto in the Round of 16.
Pirlo previously played under Ancelotti when they were both at Milan between 2001 and 2009.
In that period, they won two Champions League titles, lost the final once and also added a Serie A title.
Other names that have been linked with the job are former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo as well as former Everton manager David Moyes, who is currently at West Ham United.

Additionally, Eddie Howe, who has been unemployed since leaving Bournemouth a year ago, is also apparently in the mix.
Nuno left Wolves after being in charge for four years, leading them from the Championship all the way to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Moyes, meanwhile, has been doing excellent work with West Ham, having taken them away from relegation fears to an unexpected Europa League qualification next season.
Everton recently held a board meeting to discuss Ancelotti’s departure and plans for the future and a decision on their next manager is expected soon.
