Erling Haaland would suit a move to Manchester United far more than Manchester City, according to former City midfielder Dietmar Hamann. Haaland is heavily linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund this summer. The Norway international has maintained a stunning scoring rate during his first full season in the Bundesliga.

Haaland’s brace in the 4-2 loss to Bayern Munich on Sunday made it 29 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions this season.

United and City are two of a host of clubs linked with a move for the 20-year-old sensation, with Chelsea also rumoured to be interested.

Both United and City could be in the market for a striker this summer, with Edinson Cavani and Sergio Aguero looking likely to leave their respective clubs.

But despite City’s dominance in storming towards the Premier League title, Hamann does not think Haaland would suit the style of Pep Guardiola’s side.

He instead reckons United would be a better bet for the forward.

“I don’t think Haaland is a Manchester City player,” Hamann told Stadium Astro.

“I can’t see him joining Man City and I’m not sure whether City will be interested in him.

“Pep has got rid of some centre-forwards in the past. The way they play, they like to pass the ball around, I’m not sure whether Haaland would suit Man City or fit in there.

“At Manchester United, they have so many quick players and like to counter-attack, I think Haaland will suit United a lot better than City.

“Can United get him in the summer? I think there might be a situation in the summer if Dortmund miss out on the Champions League, where they might have to sell Haaland and [Jadon] Sancho. I think they could both go in the summer.”

United and City went head-to-head on the pitch on Sunday, with the Red Devils coming out on top 2-0 at the Etihad.

Bruno Fernandes scored the early opener for the visitors and the Portugal international wants his side to build on their “perfect” performance.

“We all know it’s difficult to play against them,” he told Sky Sports.

“They defend well and are good on the ball, but we did almost everything perfect and the result is the most important thing.

“It’s about performing well until the end of the season and about trying to win every game.

“Scoring in the first minute is perfect as we then had more space to counter, and we know that the big threat we have is the counter.”
