Erling Haaland has told Real Madrid he wants to join the club, according to reports. The Borussia Dortmund striker is set to be pursued by Manchester United next summer, when Edinson Cavani will become a free agent. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s path to the player now looks complicated.
Manchester United had originally intended to go after Haaland this summer.
It was in March that Cavani told Ed Woodward he wanted to leave the club, with the Uruguay international eyeing a return to South America with Boca Juniors.
However, in the end, the veteran decided to stay put. A fine run of form at the end of the campaign, coupled with a regular starting berth, was enough for him to change his mind.
United have since focused on signing Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, with Haaland very much on the back burner at the current moment in time.
And, now, Duncan Castles has claimed the Norway international has told Real Madrid they’re his preferred next destination.

“Haaland is a willing party [in Perez’s plan],” he said on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast.
“Information I have is he’s told Real Madrid he wants to come there.
“He’s waiting for Real Madrid to put together the money.
“That deal becomes cheaper because of the release clause.
“Some people suspect there’s a deal already in place with Dortmund, that’s why they’ve been so adamant he’s not for sale in the last few weeks of the market.

“They make a profit on him regardless, they bought him knowing he’d move to a bigger club once they’ve had time to use him in their team.
“They get their profit, they get to keep him for the coming season, he’s happy with that arrangement.
“He’s happy to stay there and wait a year before getting that preferred move to Real Madrid.”
News of Haaland’s interest in joining Real Madrid represents a hammer blow for United.
But Los Blancos appear to prefer the prospect of snapping up Kylian Mbappe instead, with the Paris Saint-Germain star potentially being available for nothing in a year.

PSG have been locked in contract talks with the France international’s camp for a while, now, but have been unable to agree on a renewal.
The arrival of Lionel Messi could help their cause but if Mbappe joins Real, their financial situation may make a move for Haaland impossible.
If he does end up moving to Spain, however, then United have options from within.
Mason Greenwood is expected to be moulded into a centre-forward now Sancho has signed, with the England star previously deployed on the wing.
The Red Devils are still hoping Anthony Martial will come good, with the former Monaco star struggling for consistency over the years.
And United also think young duo Joe Hugill and Charlie McNeill have the potential to become regulars in the coming years ahead.
Meanwhile, Real striker Karim Benzema addressed links to Haaland and Mbappe back in May.
And he admitted both players would represent good signings for Los Nuances, saying: “Haaland or Mbappe if I were a coach? I would like to have both of them, but a coach does not sign.
“Perhaps, due to the circumstances and the current situation, today I think it would be a little easier to sign Haaland.
“It would never be bad to reinforce Madrid with a 9 like Haaland, who has something that we do not have: speed, hunger, height … Mbappe has it too, of course, but it would be much easier today to come to terms with Haaland.”
