Erling Haaland rates Martin Odegaard's decision to join Arsenal

Erling Haaland has backed Martin Odegaard to be a hit under Mikel Arteta following his move to Arsenal.

The Real Madrid midfielder has joined the Gunners on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Odegaard had struggled to secure playing time under Zinedine Zidane this season, starting just three games in La Liga before his switch to the Premier League.

But Haaland has backed his Norway teammate to flourish for Arsenal once he is handed a regular role by Arteta.

‘It will be interesting. Arsenal are a big club in England,’ Haaland told VG when asked about Odegaard’s move to Arsenal.

‘It’s a bit different football, but I think he can fit in well with Mikel Arteta in the No.10 role. He can enjoy himself there.

‘He has to get in there and simply start playing games. That’s what he needs.

‘We know how good Odegaard can be. When he gains confidence with the ball, we know that the most incredible things can happen.’

Meanwhile, Odegaard has revealed that Arteta played a key role in convincing him to make the move to the Gunners.

‘I spoke to him before coming here, of course,’ Odegaard told Arsenal’s official website.

‘That was very important for me and he seems like a top manager and I liked his ideas, the way he sees football and also the way he is.

‘He gave me a great feeling and that was important for me to come here. He was crucial.

‘I think every time you go to a new place, you want to make sure that it feels good and that there is a plan. But I think everything here just seems good.

‘I like the club and I always liked the way that the club wants to play. Everything about the club and now how the manager wants to play, I think it’s a club that really suits me well. So I think it’s a good match.’
