Erling Haaland ‘drops Josko Gvardiol’s price’ as he destroys top Man City target

Manchester City fans have thanked Erling Haaland for single-handedly 'dropping the price tag' of Josko Gvardiol during his demolition of RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old became the youngest player in history to score 30 goals in the Champions League while breaking the record for most goals scored by a City player in a single season with 39.

While doing just that in the 7-0 victory, which was 8-1 on aggregate, Gvardiol, 21, had a night to forget with Marco Rose and his side getting humbled in Manchester.

One fan said: "Gvardiol gets rinsed by Lionel Messi and Haaland. quite the resume, not many can compare." A second posted: "Haaland dropped Gvardiol's price."

A third said: "Haaland nicely bringing Gvardiol price tag down." A fourth concluded: "Haaland scored 5 goals past Gvardiol to lower his price tag."

Despite the horror show from the RB Leipzig defence, Gvardiol has been backed to come good by Owen Hargreaves, who sees it as a learning experience.

Speaking on BT Sport, Hargreaves said of the defender: "I think he will be one of the best defenders in the world one day, he would've learned a lot tonight."

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier on Tuesday that Gvardiol remains one of City's top summer targets, with Chelsea and Liverpool also in the race.

Daily Star Sport understands City will go in hard for World Cup star Gvardiol should they lose Aymeric Laporte this summer.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain are showing a strong interest in central defender Laporte. City would subsequently be willing to listen for offers of £60m-plus for the Spain international, 28, in the next window and use that cash to help finance their pursuit of Gvardiol.

Haaland beat a 94-year record held by Tommy Johnson's 38 goals in a season for City – and he still has a possible 19 games to go this season to add to his tally.
