Erling Haaland has dealt Chelsea a transfer hammer blow by not including the Blues in his potential list of next clubs.

The Borussia Dortmund striker is one of Europe’s most sought after footballers, having scored 43 goals in 45 appearances since joining the Bundesliga giants.

Winner of 2020’s Golden Boy award and still only 20 years of age, Haaland has become a prime target for Europe’s biggest clubs. Among those, from the Premier League, are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.

The Norway international’s current valuation sits at €110million (£95m), with a €100m (£86.4m) release clause due to come into effect in 2022.

Super agent Mino Raiola recently claimed that, realistically, only 10 clubs would be able to afford the striker. The above four from England were included.

But in a bitter blow to Chelsea, it seems they’ve been dropped from that list. According to SportBild, Haaland has whittled those 10 clubs down to six – and the Blues are not included.

Despite the club, and Roman Abramovich, making Haaland their No.1 target this summer, it now seems they have very little chance of landing the striker.

It is reported that Haaland want’s to join an ‘absolute top’ club and he feels Chelsea don’t fall into this category.

But it is a boost for United who are included in the shortlist. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has worked with Norway striker before, at Molde, and remains on good terms with the forward.

“When you have had kids and players through as a coach, you follow them and I keep in touch with Erling,” he said.

“It’s great to see him become the player he has become and [how] he works to improve all the time. He’s a Dortmund player – we just wish him well there and let’s see what life will bring later on.

“You know I can’t speak about Erling because he’s at Borussia Dortmund, and it’s disrespectful to talk too much about it, apart from that I know him and I speak to him. Who wasn’t interested in him a year ago?

“Everybody would say you would take the best players in the world and Erling is a top player.”

There’s no doubting that Haaland would markedly improve United’s front line but they will likely face strong competition from neighbours City.

The Blues have made Haaland their top target this summer as they look to rebuild their front line. Sergio Aguero is entering the twilight of his career and Gabriel Jesus has not done enough to match the Argentinian’s standards.
