Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has claimed Erling Haaland should stay at Borussia Dortmund – despite being the subject of interest from Barcelona. The German international has surprisingly talked down the prospect of Barca signing the goal machine, as he advised the Norwegian to stay with the Bundesliga club.
It could all be part of Barcelona’s master plan to land Haaland next summer though when his £66million release clause becomes active.
As things stand, Dortmund withhold the right to demand up to £150million for the 20-year-old, who only arrived from RB Salzburg for £18m in January 2020.
However, next summer the Bundesliga giants will be powerless once the clause becomes active and they are expecting to lose their star man.
When asked about the prospect of signing Haaland, Ter Stegen was reluctant to endorse the move despite recognising the striker’s quality.

“Haaland would make any team in the world better,” he told SPORT1.
“But why not to stay in Dortmund for another year?
“Dortmund are a very well-managed club. It would not be a step backwards at all…”
Signal Iduna Park chiefs are determined to keep Haaland for another season as they look to rival Bayern Munich for the title next term.

Dortmund have already made it clear to Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola that they want to keep the player at all costs.
Yet that didn’t stop the super-agent from flying out to Spain in early April for talks with both Barcelona and Real Madrid alongside Alf-Inge Haaland.
Barcelona are very much in the race for the prolific goalscorer but as it stands, they cannot afford the money it will take to sign him.
The same can be said of Real Madrid, who are said to prefer a move for Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester City and Manchester United are also in the race with the Champions League finalists most likely to dip their hands into their pockets.
Sergio Aguero is already on the move this summer and the void he leaves behind will need replacing.
Haaland’s father also played for the Citizens, meaning there is already an emotive connection to the club.
Any team willing to match Dortmund’s valuation of the player this summer looks likely to beat their rivals to Haaland’s signature.
