Erik ten Hag’s public anger at Fred now makes sense with cut-price sale set
Andre Onana linked with Man Utd and Chelsea move
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has put Fred up for sale this summer, 12 months before his contract expires. And his decision to offload Fred will come as no surprise to those who spotted his visible fury over the Brazil midfielder’s quality, or lack of it, last season.
Fred has had his moments in a United shirt and made himself useful as an energetic presence off the bench for most of Ten Hag’s first campaign.
But he has ultimately failed to live up to the £50million Jose Mourinho splashed to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.
United first indicated that he had no future under Ten Hag by opting against triggering the one-year extension in his current contract.
And the Dutchman is keen to offload Fred this summer, reportedly placing a £20m price tag on his head, with Fulham interested.
The Telegraph claim that the Cottagers aren’t willing to meet that asking price but hope they can agree on a compromise.

Ten Hag has stressed the importance of control across his first year at Old Trafford. The signings of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen resulted from his desire for possession-comfy players.
But Fred isn’t known for his ball retention qualities, and the erratic nature of his game prompted an angry reaction from Ten Hag during United’s 2-2 draw against Leeds United in February.
The Red Devils weren’t at the races at Old Trafford, falling two goals behind their rivals before clawing back a draw in the second half.
Fred had a night to forget, drawing groans from the home faithful en masse with a 63 per cent pass accuracy.

The 30-year-old summed up his game by conceding a free-kick, misplacing a pass and being dispossessed in the space of one minute.
And the Manchester Evening News reported that Ten Hag’s anger got the better of him at one point, throwing his chewing gum onto the ground in response to a Fred mistake.
Ten Hag wants to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer, potentially as a straight swap for Fred.
Mount’s ability on the ball will surely make him an upgrade in the United boss’ eyes as he attempts to revolutionise the way his side plays.
