Erik ten Hag ready to sell Man Utd stars ‘in the wrong place’
Ten Hag comments as Shaw signs new Man Utd deal
Erik ten Hag has warned his Manchester United stars they are “in the wrong place” if they lack “determination, passion and desire”. The Dutchman questioned the spirit of his players after they produced a characterless display in their 2-0 defeat by Newcastle on Sunday.
Ten Hag admits his team were “killed” by an opponent playing above their usual level. It comes after left-back Luke Shaw also criticised his colleagues for losing the game on “passion and hunger”.
The United boss appears ready to move on any players who do not meet the required standards for personality and attitude. It could see a couple of key men leave in the summer, especially after they were called out by team-mate Shaw.
“Of course you have to match certain standards,” Ten Hag said ahead of United’s clash with Brentford on Wednesday. “You have to match certain standards and I know in a season you don’t only go up one way, you will have fluctuations. But you have to know why you are where you are and what brings us into that position.

“Sunday was about determination, passion and desire – and I missed that. When they can’t get it, then they’re in the wrong place.
“When you have a strong opponent who play above their level – and many teams do against Manchester United – then you get killed. And we did on Sunday.”
Shaw slammed his team-mates following a lifeless performance against Newcastle. United’s form has dipped since their Carabao Cup win over the same opposition in February.
Ten Hag’s side failed to win a Premier League game in March and have slipped outside of the top four. However, two games in hand over fourth-place Tottenham mean a victory over Brentford would push them back into contention for the Champions League places.

“Not good enough. I feel like every time I speak after games, bad results, I’m always honest,” Shaw reflected to Sky Sports after United were comfortably beaten by Newcastle.
“Us as a team, we have to be honest, I do feel Newcastle are a very good side but I don’t think they won the game on quality today, they won it on passion and hunger, desire, attitude and they clearly had that higher motivation than we had. That can’t be possible.
“I feel like we say the same things every time we lose, like I say it’s not acceptable and we know that. It was a massive game today and they wanted it more. At Man United that cannot be possible.”
