Erik ten Hag ‘likes everybody to run’ but Man Utd embarrassed by Brentford stat
It was thought that Erik ten Hag implemented a thorough training regime during pre-season but stats showed that Manchester United were lacklustre in their approach against Brentford.
The Red Devils endured one of their worst displays in years with the Bees rolling the club over in a 4-0 win – but this is despite the constant noises that the side were being hammered with intense training drills in the run-up to the campaign.
The Daily Mail report that United men covered 95.6km during the 90 minutes compared to 109.4km covered by Brentford.

It was thought that Ten Hag’s whole philosophy was about intense pressing and using lots of intensity, but that’s the precise opposite of what occurred at the Community Stadium.
Bruno Fernandes had even talked about how the manager likes 'everybody to run' in July.
"It’s been pretty intense,” Fernandes said. “He [Ten Hag] likes intense training, reactions when you lose the ball. He likes everyone to run. He’s been really good. Everyone is enjoying [it], obviously. Everyone gets really tired at the end of the training but that’s what we have to do.”

The Portugal international added: “We have to be like that at the end of the training, but then you know the training was really good. As I said, we have to do the hard work because, if we do it now, then we will be fit for the beginning of the season.”
Goalkeeper David de Gea – who was arguably at fault for two goals against Brentford – had talked up his manager’s ethos ahead of the new season as well. “The manager knows 100 per cent what he wants,” De Gea told club media. “He knows the way he wants to play.
“He’s giving a lot of information to the team, trying to give the details and have some rules inside and outside the pitch, I think this is what we need and also to know what we have to do on the pitch and play as a team.I think the whole team is working very hard,” he added. It’s very intense training and everyone is focused on football and I feel that I have seen great, great things.”
But despite the words, United sit bottom of the Premier League table for the first time in 30 years. This last happened in August 1992 when Alex Ferguson's team lost 2-1 at Sheffield United on the opening weekend before facing Everton at home where they lost 3-0.
